For five days over Labor Day weekend, the Vail Jazz Party brings over 35 jazz heavyweights to play together in riveting main stage performances, captivating jam sessions, and inspiring multimedia tributes to jazz legends. Each week we’ll focus on one set that will take place at the Vail Jazz Party. This week, it’s James Morrison Plays the Lot taking place on Saturday, September 1st.
“Doubling” on a similar instrument is rather common in the jazz world. Terell Stafford also plays flugelhorn, Wycliffe Gordon can play trumpet and Jeff Clayton even plays oboe! Not one to be shown up, James Morrison has learned how to play every instrument in a big band to a virtuosic level (take a look!). This year, he has issued a challenge: bring me whatever brass instruments you can find and I’ll play them. James Morrison Plays the Lot promises to be a one of a kind event showcasing the showmanship and musicianship of one of the world’s premier brass experts.
