Guests are arriving, summer is here and there is a definite buzz in the air. The Vail Valley really knows how to celebrate the Fourth of July, from Avon’s huge fireworks display to Eagle’s homegrown bike parade to Vail’s hours-long parade and patriotic concert. But when you arrive home to celebrate with family and friends, you want your house looking just as festive. Here are a few designer tips from Slifer Designs on how to keep your house in the red, white and blue mood.
Use your planters to make your deck pop with petunias, pansies and geraniums.
Red, white and blue blankets add to the air of festivity. Use throws for a patriotic picnic, or to nestle under during late-night fireworks. Put the blankets on the back of the sofa and on our favorite armchair.
No detail is too small – use flag-themed napkins and tablecloth to show your spirit. There are so many ways to bring your party to life: colorful, flag-inspired napkins, bunches of white and blue hydrangeas, red-and-white or blue-and-white gingham tablecloths and miniature flags as centerpieces (kids will especially love these flags for an impromptu parade of their own). Other easy décor ideas include red, white and blue candles, which keep the party going late into the night, and flag-inspired desserts. Yum!
Use Fourth of July artwork throughout your house – we have a shadowbox with a framed American flag.
Enjoy the great outdoors over the Independence Day holiday. Invest in colorful chair cushions: the red, white and blue cushions create a patriotic vibe.
If you’re going to be out and about, carry the spirit of the Fourth with you. The Vail parade attracts thousands of visitor and is Americana unto itself. Bring your red, white and blue blanket with you to stay comfortable on the curb.
Finally if you have the time, find holiday-inspired food: flag cakes, champagne spritzers with blueberries and raspberries, or blueberry muffins with red liners. Details matter!
Between the Patriotic concert at the amphitheater, the huge Vail parade and hometown Eagle parade, myriad fireworks…. Celebrate the holiday boldly and with lots of red, white and blue!
