Skate On

Hear that? It’s the sweet sound of the skate park. Not just for skateboarders (bikers and scooters utilize it, too), skate parks are the alternate heart of a community. Riders of all ages congregate here to learn, hone their craft or simply hang out with friends and spectate. In the Vail Valley, there are now three skate parks: one in Gypsum, one in Edwards and now in Vail. Each park is unique, just like the community that it serves, accommodating a variety of abilities. “When I moved to Vail, in October of 1999, there were only two skate parks in the Vail Valley, one in Vail, and one in Gypsum,” says C.J. Aerial Adventures

Stand at the bottom of the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead and gaze upwards. You can’t see it, but perched at the top of the mountain is a world of adventure, just waiting to be explored. Known as Epic Discovery, the mountain coaster, rope courses, climbing wall, bungee trampoline and other activities give guests an opportunity to climb, bounce and race around at 10,000-feet above sea level. Hike, Wine, and Dine

Hike, Wine, a Dine was this past weekend and what a treat it was. Nothing like strolling up Beaver Creek Mountain surrounded by the colorful leaves, enjoying gourmet foods! All while supporting a wonderful cause, all proceeds benefit Shaw Regional Cancer Center and Jack’s Place. The hike is an annual hike each fall. Starting at the base of the mountain with mimosas and breakfast. As you work your way along the trail, there are various food stations with delicious bites! Completing the hike with dessert! This is a wonderful event each fall that the whole family can enjoy!

The 36th Fips-Mouche Fly Fishing World Championships

All this week September 11th-18th Vail is hosting the 36th Fips-Mouche Fly Fishing World Championships. The town hosted the opening ceremony and will be hosting the closing ceremony. Tickets are available at Driving along the highway you may have noticed flags along the river. These are sectors of water where the teams will be competing. There are five sectors; Sector I is located near Wolcott, Eagle River Upper. Sector II is located in Gypsum on Gypsum Ponds, Eagle River Lower. Sector III is on the Colorado River near Dotsero. Sector IV is located on Sylvan Lake. Lastly, Sector V is located on Blue River. There are loch sectors and river sectors. Twenty five different teams are competing in the Championship from all over the world.
