Hello! Summer is officially in high (or is it hot?!) gear, and we here at Vail Bluegrass are so excited to kick off our 5th annual series in two short weeks. Below is a quick snapshot of what to expect across the four weeks.
The free Wednesday night, Lionshead Village-based series kicks off June 27 with Asheville, NC’s River Whyless. Fresh on the heels of their new record, Kindness, A Rebel, River Whyless brings to Vail their traditional yet eclectic sounds of folk and bluegrass. Support by Steamboat Springs’ Buffalo Commons.
As we turn the corner into July, Vail Bluegrass is pleased to present a free, day-long July 4 event. Kicking things off at noon, as soon as the Vail America Days parade winds down, is the Vail Mountain School’s CJM Jazz Trio followed by Denver up-and-comers Boot Gun, Chain Station and the Drunken Hearts. The evening will top off with a performance by headlining bluegrassers, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades followed by the annual Town of Vail fireworks show.
On July 11, we are absolutely ecstatic to welcome critically-acclaimed songwriter, Tyler Childers to the Vail Bluegrass stage amidst his summer tour that hits Bonnaroo, the Ride Festival and more. Tyler’s latest release, Purgatory, was produced by award winning artist Sturgill Simpson, and has gained national-level attention since its release in 2017. Support from Vail locals, Hardscrabble.
Vail Bluegrass wraps up on July 18, with the Everyone Orchestra. Conductor Matt Butler will lead his ever-changing lineup of musicians through 2 hours of non-stop improv. This time the band features Drew Emmitt (Leftover Salmon), Rev. Jeff Mosier (Aquarium Rescue Unit), Bridget Law & Darren Garvey (Elephant Revival) and Tyler Grant & Adrian Engfer (the Grant Farm). Support from Durango’s Liver Down the River.
As always, Vail Bluegrass will partner with and recognize a local non-profit that goes above and beyond in their respective space. This summer we are thrilled to work alongside Town of Vail’s Restore the Gore initiative to kick back some of the funds raised through our onsite raffles.
And lastly, a shout-out to our sponsors and partners for the roles they play including Town of Vail, the Antlers at Vail, Vail Mountain, Moe’s BBQ, Never Summer, Icelantic Skis, All Four Guitars, Visit Vail (Vail Chamber and Business Association), Breckenridge Brewery and Eco Products.
All Vail Bluegrass shows are 6-9 pm (except July 4 which begins at noon), free to the public and will go on rain or shine.
